Millennial indigenous nation territories were separated geographically by the arbitrary 49* latitude international boundary of the Oregon Treaty of 1846.  Between 1857 and 1861, the Canadian and US American land survey teams conducted the formal physical definition of the boundary from the crest of the Rocky Mountains west to the Strait of Georgia inlet of the Pacific Ocean.
